Several regions of Quebec outside Montreal were placed under severe thunderstorm watches this week, including a tornado warning in the Laurentians. Here’s where things stand.

Environment Canada placed several regions under severe thunderstorm watch on Tuesday, including Outaouais, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Estrie, Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec, in addition to Greater Montreal.

Environment Canada meteorologist Kate Leclerc said 40 to 60 mm of rain was expected across southern Quebec, an amount that could trigger localized flooding in the most vulnerable areas.

Around 5:45 p.m., a warning was issued for a tornado spotted south of Arundel, moving toward Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard in the Laurentians. Environment Canada had forecast a “moderate” impact level, citing possible damage to roofs, fences, tree branches and temporary shelters.

Subsequent reporting from Radio-Canada and MétéoMédia indicated the storms ultimately proved less severe than feared in several parts of southern Quebec, limiting the extent of reported material damage.
