Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced the immediate suspension of the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), adding to a broader tightening of immigration rules that took effect this month.
The federal government announced on July 17 the immediate suspension of new applications under the Parents and Grandparents Program.
The pause follows new rules tightening oversight of immigration and citizenship consultants, which took effect July 15.
The 2026-2028 immigration levels plan targets roughly 380,000 new permanent residents annually, within a range of 350,000 to 420,000, for a total of close to 1.2 million new permanent residents over three years.
Separately, a Provincial Nominee Program draw issued 511 invitations to apply for permanent residence on July 20.
